ABOUT E&WHCC - the present!
2021 was the Club's first season as part of the Cherwell League with the 1st XI playing in the Division 5C, the 2nd XI in Division 7C and the 3rd XI in Division 8A.
The 1st XI won the 2021 Division 5C league under the captaincy of Jack Mulford so have been promoted to Division 4A for 2022. This season the team will be led by Andrew Francis and Eddie Howard who will be familiar faces to many on the circuit!
The 2nd XI were captained by Liam Richardson - who swore 2021 was his last season in the role - and were promoted to Division 6B for 2022. Liam has finally found someone else to take over the role and the 2nd X1 will be captained by Andrew Broadbent and Miles Martin when we can tear him away from London.
For the first time in many years the club was able to field a third team under the enthusiastic leadership of Dan Atkins. Dan is a long standing member of the club and seized the challenge of captaining the team which wasn't without its headaches!
Holidays, school commitments and of course Covid isolations meant that Dan rarely had the same team from one week to the next and was often having to give players to the 2nd XI when they were short. Nevertheless the team spirit remained high throughout the season and provided a wonderful opportunity for some of our younger and less experienced players to enjoy a game all summer long.
A year of fun, frustration and perseverance sees the 3rd XI remain in Division 8C for 2022.
Downs League (Wednesday night)
Wednesday night cricket (Downs League) combines a fast paced T20 event with post match BBQ and refreshments. Archie Napper has led the team for several years and whilst he tried to accommodate many of the keen cricketers in the club it wasn't always possible so we are delighted to be able to field a second team for Wednesdays led by Liam Rainbow and Robin Alner.
Friday night training for the Juniors, All Stars & Dynamos continued to be a real success with over 100 youngsters regularly training and socialising from 5pm each week.
With so many very talented girls in our junior section, the Club was keen to provide an opportunity for them to develop and whilst they are always welcome to play in the Senior teams, we felt it was the right moment to bring in some County qualified female coaches to help the Club develop a Ladies team. The training sessions were a hit and the Club will be building on this fantastic base for 2022 with a range of Ladies matches scheduled for the early part of the season. The Ladies team will be captained by Laura Jacob and managed by Dawn Barksfield.
Most importantly the number of people who are part of the club, be they players, coaches, volunteers or parents has grown and we really are thrilled to be part of a club which is at the heart of the community.
We welcome players of all ages and abilities, families or individuals, men and women, girls and boys, players and non-players.
We have worked hard over the past few years to develop a vibrant, friendly, welcoming community sports hub with beautiful facilities right on your doorstep in Mill Lane. We have now taken on the ground at Ardington so we have even more space for matches giving everyone the opportunity to play.
If you want to get involved on the playing or non-playing side, volunteer to help preparing the ground, umpire, score or you would prefer to just sit back, enjoy a drink and watch the game, you will always be made to feel most welcome.
For those who are interested in the Club's history a very interesting recount can be found here.
